Whitton Church Prior to Bombing
“a property called “the retreat”, 213 Nelson Road, has been acquired by the Fathers of St. Edumund, who are providing a temporary Chapel until a Church can be built. This Chapel will be able to accommodate only a small number of people of the district. It is dedicated to St. Edmund, For the present mass will be said on Sundays at 8 and 10:30 am. There will be an evening service at 6:30pm. During the week, Mass will be said at 7:30am. The priest in charge will be the Rev. L. M. Cheray, S.S.E., who will be assisted by the Rev. J. Weston, S.S.E.”
